Coffeehouse AI Notes โ˜•๐Ÿ“

AI is the most important invention of our lifetime. Getting it right is crucial. A key pillar of this is reasoned conversation: in the spirit of the coffeehouses of the Enlightenment.

Coffeehouse AI Notes is an experiment. A small community with different opinions about AI, but the shared goal of creating more Community Notes of AI content on X. We collaborate informally over slack and video calls, and build our own tech tools, to spot, research, and note more content than any of us could individually.

We will always note an influential tweet that is misleading. We will never note one that is correct. We will note anyone, of any affiliation.

Our only tribe is truth.

I'm launching an experiment, Coffeehouse AI Notes. It is basic plan to kickstart the amount of X Community Notes on AI content.

I'm tired of the barrage of AI disinformation -- falsifiable, misleading claims -- and I want to fix it.

AI Notes will be a small community using both technology and good old collaboration to divvy up the labour of researching, writing and posting Community Notes.

To start out, I built a bot that scans new tweets about a topic in real-time, and flags potentially misleading ones in Slack.

We'll hang out in that channel, and work together under these principles:

We'll also be in contact with X's Community Notes team to ensure everything we do is in line with the intent of the system.

Weโ€™re solving the problem where people who can write community notes about AI are too busy; people who want to write community notes are unable because their accounts having been lost in the Twitter Community Notes approval backlogs; and when people do write notes about AI, they get lost due to too little overall Community Notes activity.

I'm looking for folks who:

  1. Want to research and write notes (you do not need to already be a member of Community Notes!)
  2. Have the ability to actually post notes on X (you do not need to write the notes yourself, but importantly if you post them you will have to review them)

If that's you, feel free to express interest here.

  1. Our mission is to defend an extremely high standard of quality, honesty, and integrity in public AI discourse.
  2. We will always note an influential tweet that is misleading, and never note one that is isn't.
  3. We will note anyone, of any affiliation. Our only tribe is truth.
  4. If and when we grow, move all operations to a public and transparent Discord (transparent like Wikipedia's moderation practices), and build a community cutting across AI tribal affiliations. The Discord will give the public read access, but only write access to invited members.
  5. When posting a note, the X account with writing privileges has final say, and takes full responsibility, for the note. We will not use "note farming" or socket accounts to post more notes.
  6. No soliciting for votes. It is okay, and encouraged to post a link to a note you just wrote. Not okay: post a link saying "Please upvote!" Always leave people the option to downvote or disagree with your note.
  7. Stay in contact with X's Community Notes team, to ensure everything we do is consistent with their intention for the feature.
  8. As a group, never take an official stance in an AI related debate (with the exception of defending the principles that allow us to have a clear debate of high standards). Our members are free to hold any view they desire.
